Before reach, near to Vallimalai Murugan temple – Chinnamalai Jain cave situated - GPS coordinates (13.074, 79.25)

This  is one more Jain Monks School in Vallimallai.

Descriptions of Post were separate.....)

After seeing Vallimalai hill range Jain rockcut sculptures and caverns, , we came to see another one mountainous forest area Chinnamalai hill Jain heritage before reach Vallimalai temple.
All the sculptures here were more finely carved than the Kanada Badami sculptures there. It can be said that it is the nice carving of an expert sculptor.. Even though everything had been away from approach, some had been damaged by hitting with stones. we felt sorry when we saw the distortion.

The site is yet to be excavated by the archeology department and therefore has not been fenced off. Voluntary sculpture conservating organizations are also missing to safeguard the spot.
500m before reaching the Vallimalai hill temple we turn on a small road to the left; you will see a small mountain in the extension of some residences.

If you trek up to the hill, you can saw Jain cavern and Tirthankaras, Sasana Devi goddess idols carved in relief.

Slightly steep and rough raising path is difficult to navigate. People who are not experience the trekking should not try to climb. Also for safety reasons, it is better group of people go together. And if we go at midnoon time we can save ourselves from poisonous insects and snakes living. This ancient treasure is still not undertaking by archeologists so far for maintainence.
Three spot is important to see.

Before reachin the peak three sculptures are displayed on a boulder to attract us surrounded by trees, branchs of leaves , shrubs, herbs and bushes. All three monuments are precisely carved sculptures on this hill is a special feature. They all carved into the rock in the right proportions and seem like a painting on the wall. When one can sees the idols, he is tempting to worship to hold and raising hands. So elegant… as well as divinity

First frame Sculpture : indepth and three fourth embalmed Bas relief of Ambika the goddess (Dharmadevi Yakshi) seated on a dais with her left leg folded and the right leg hanging down. Her (prebirth) sons Subangan and Prabangan are both mutilated and her maid/ friend is carved near in a standing position.

Above the head, hold a ornamental conical crown, with carving like a canopy of mango tree. (It is also noteworthy that areca tree is carved in some places). The Nilorpamalar/ Flower, and Mango in the hands of the deity are also seen disintegrating. The ornaments worn on the neck, ears, hip, shoulders and hands are not clearly visible. They are carroded by the atmosperic seasons.
Second sculpture: Tirthankara is seen in Arthaparyangasana meditating posture seated on a Vedhi. The number of special features carved around him indicate that he attained the state of Jina.

A - Singathanam (crown), Pamandalam(halo), Mukkudai (tri-umbrella), royal tree devalok gods blowing thundhupi air instrument. Devloke emperor Sowdharmendran on Airavat elephant, other deva kings sitting on their vehicles and Mathalam sculptures for Divyatoni, and devlok gods waving camaras( broomfibre) as fan; are the eight special features of Jinar after attaining Omnicient. All these fearture are found in this framed sculpture , flanked by SriBrahmadevar on the right on an elephant vehicle and Sri Ambika sitting on a lion vehicle on the left (destroyed).
Third Block: Sri Parswanatha with Panamudi ( canopied by Bhavana/Nagaloka King Sri Dharanendran) with turban and prabhavali(halo) above, camara Devas standing others are as if showering flowers. Surrounding him are four Arihant state of sadhus (Mallinathar, Vasupujyar, Neminathar and Mahaveer) carved in Arthaparyangasana in Dhyana posture along with Mukkudai and Camarai Devas.

All these five Jinas are Balabrahmmacharis. That is, avert marriage and interested on celebacy(brahmacharyam) life style throughout entire lifetime. Lastly they attain omnicient State. Symbolizing this lifestyle, the five jinars were carved. (The same exposing is also carved on the forehead of roof of the vallimalai cavern. Sixth one jinar sculptures is carved in a small size. It might be carved in later period) adds to the splendor of these two sites.
Here, there is a cave near the cluster. A yakshi sculpture is visible from this site on a whole in ruined state.

Coming towards the adjacent side, there is a Tirthankar Tirumeni in Arthaparyangasana carved beautifully in a rectangular hollow. This eye-catching sculpture is noteworthy that adds pride to the chinnamalai hill heritage. And near to this, a very small ParsvaJinar with panamudi and a small figure like Sri Dharanendran. may have been chistled at later date.
Underneath of this carving find a yakshi denote as Ambika (Dharmadevi). But it is in a dark place so we cannot easily identified.

A cave is found next to it. The signs of habitant of jainsages living in this cave, has stone doorframe entry.
Very nice place to visit…
